![]() ![]() So what evidence is there for Firaxis to conclude you are a "loyal" customer and worth pursuing?Īs I commented in my previous post, the gold edition is clearly intended to get new players to buy everything released so far, realise the game needs more, and pay full price for the new expansion. ![]() But you have not gone on to buy anything else although the civ + scenario bundle and R&F have been discounted in sales for several months. It is called capitalism and is the economic system in effect throughout the world we live in. I paid full price for Civ V and its expansions but swear I will never do that again - so I won't touch R&F or GS until they drop to a 50% discount.įiraxis exists to make as much money as possible for its owners/shareholders. To me, it doesn't feel like an apropriate way to treat your fanbase, nor is it logical pricing.ĭon't get me wrong, I have no liking for the way Firaxis price their Civ games. I paid about 60$ just for the base game upon release, and now i'm expected to pay 40$ more for the rest of the content. Mind you, players who only now buy Civ pay about 40$ and get the base + rise and fall + civs. I would have expected Firaxis to act fairly towards their loyal fanbase who bought the base game at first, instead of pulling a stunt that forces them to pay the same ammount of money for less content. It isn't like it costs twice as much just because you already have the base game though and if you haven't bought any DLC before now why should they do you any favours? So they want to move new buyers straight to wanting the new expansion and aren't that interested in anyone who hasn't bought the DLC already. Not much though.įiraxis/2K are really after selling the new expansion, that is where they make the most profit per unit assuming no-one buys the rest without a sale discount. Gold is actually just less than the civ and scenario bundle + R&F, by less than 2 euro in the current sale. If you own the base game - you need to pay more to get just the DLCs.
